Practice / 01 / Research & Academic Work

Social dance is a technology, not a metaphor.

Cinthia is a PhD candidate in Critical Dance Studies at UC Riverside, building on an MA in Choreomundus (Erasmus Mundus International Master in Dance Knowledge, Practice, and Heritage). Her research treats Latin social dances as technologies for community building, political intervention, and social justice activism, using ethnographic, autoethnographic, and archival methods. This work has been presented at the Dance Studies Association's Annual Conference in Buenos Aires (2024) and the Critical Dance Experiments conference at UCR (2026).
